In 1951, the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH) was formed through the merger of the American Society of Tropical Medicine (founded in 1903) and the National Malaria Committee (established in 1916). Over the decades, ASTMH has emphasized its international character through initiatives. Central to its mission are the annual meetings. These gatherings began with the predecessor society in the early 1900s and continued post-merger. The five-day meetings have since evolved into premier forums, attracting thousands of attendees from more than 100 countries and featuring thousands of presentations, educational sessions, and exhibits on scientific and clinical advances.1, 2
The ASTMH 2025 Annual Meeting, held from November 09-13 in Toronto, Canada, brought together global health professionals to discuss advancements in tropical medicine and hygiene. The meeting featured 109 symposium sessions, 632 oral abstract presentations, and 1,371 poster abstracts (not including the late breaker abstracts).
At the ASTMH 2025 Annual Meeting, I participated as a lightning talk presenter and a poster presenter. The
topic I talked about in this meeting was on perineal injury during childbirth among the rural women of
Bangladesh.
I participated in scientific discussions focused on childhood infectious diseases, AMR, climate change, and
global health. By actively networking with academics and colleagues, I shared my research insights and
future plans. This experience equipped me with essential knowledge and connections that will directly
contribute to my scientific progress.
